Bruni served in the first world war, deserted to join a circus, and became involved in the creative world of artists, performers, film-makers and painters during the period which Germany was going through huge social and political upheavals. Bruni doesn't seem like a particularly nice character - part artist, part crook, who met - it seems, nothing is ever certain with this man - an untimely demise in Paris after fleeing the Nazis before the Second World War.

Bruni forged paintings and used multiple identities to support his lifestyle. On the periphery of fame, he seems to have been an early "groupie" who perhaps realised he didn't have quite the talent to succeed. He appeared in films in minor roles, painted and collected masks, and was completely embedded in the subculture epitomised by Cabaret and Gunter Grass's novel The Tin Drum.

The exhibition is held in the Crypt Gallery of St Pancras Church in London, on the Euston Road between St Pancras and Euston stations. It was specially designed for this sinister and claustrophobic space, with its tunnels and ancient headstones, and is really powerful, sucking you in to the "Party-on-the-Titanic" atmosphere of the times, where hedonism collides with brutality and fascism, and paranoia, masks and false identities become not abnormal, but a reasonable adaptation to the circumstances.

Only open for two more days till May 16th, this underground nightmare is worth seeing if you are drawn to the darker places of our existence. It's a labour of twisted love and Broughton Birnie are to be congratulated on their compelling, disturbing look into a smashed kaleidoscope of art reflecting society.

Founder Robert Harding says about acquiring the collection, "We think that the environment is a very important issue and this was the perfect opportunity to acquire a strong base of material on the subject that we can develop further.

"The other aspect was that it had a substantial collection of footage. We wanted to go into video and it was the perfect opportunity to kick start our footage collection. We're now adapting our website to handle video and eventually we'll merge the two sites. "

He adds that he has personal favourites from the Specialist Stock collection, " The wildlife element is very strong and they have supplied clips for very big BBC series like Frozen Planet. The underwater material is very special - I particularly love the footage of killer whales hunting sea lions in Patagonia and huge manta rays off the coast of Mexico."

Harding have been very busy raising their profile recently, attending the BAFTA's highly successful Footage Marketplace last month, as well as the well-attended 2nd annual Fotofringe event. They say, "Nothing beats talking to our clients face to face!"

Voices of the South Atlantic examines issues of war and its consequences. Rooted in the 1982 Falklands/ Malvinas War, it includes the voices of people who fought on both sides, as well as civilians who were directly affected by it. Its premise is that fear and loss are universal, and that pain and trauma affect both the losers and the winners. Colour photographs of landscapes of the Falkland Islands and black-and-white seascapes of the South Atlantic are shown next to portraits of British, Argentine and Falkland veterans and Falkland Islanders. By juxtaposing photographs of bloodied and scarred landscapes with testimonies from the people who lived the war, a dialogue is established between the time needed for the terrain to heal over and the period the men themselves need to recover.
